Rosina Lyford was born in London in 1936. She studied art with
the artist Adrian Heath and later attended the Chelsea Art School.
She
married at 18 and had two children but divorced in her late twenties when
she started her life as a professional painter.
“Art was my only means of
support so I always showed my paintings anywhere I could. People’s homes,
competitions, street art shows, private collections, galleries from New York to Oslo. I would travel anywhere in the world and paint to
earn my keep.”
Rosina has a very distinctive style
asking her about it she says,
“my
style is so intuitive – a part of me. I am not really conscious of it. I
paint like a composer writes music, or a poet uses
words. Some paintings are light and frivolous, like pop music and others
many-layered, subtle and thoughtful in content, like a symphony, but all
are painted with care and attention to achieve the desired end result.”
Rosina works in acrylic on canvas but has also made some
lithographic prints, some of which can be seen in the print gallery. In the
near future she does intend to start producing prints of the work that
she’s created over the past 30 years as a professional painter.
